Villas in Provence, France - Barclay International Group

Mas Des Sagnos

Located in one of the most sought-after areas in the South of France, the famed "Golden Triangle" of Provence, this classic stone-walled villa is nestled in a 2.5 acre sun-drenched park replete with swimming pool, expansive lawns, and numerous olive, fruit and cypress trees, all accessed from the main road via a winding alley of umbrella pines. It offers the ultimate in privacy behind its stone and iron gates and its borders of hundred-year old trees, however, it is within walking/hiking distance to the charming little villages of Paradou and Les Baux-de-Provence. The property sits at the foot of the celebrated medieval perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence, whose dramatic ruins, ongoing cultural events and celebrated history have made it one of the principal attractions of France. Mas des Sagnos is located in the small range of hills called the Alpilles, or "Little Alps," and delivers a wonderful balance between proximity to the most famous Provencal villages/events and quiet relaxation in the countryside.

Maximum Occupancy: 10 people

Minimum Stay: 1 week

Description:
The villa's main living areas and pool have a southern exposure and boast
expansive views over the Alpilles countryside that so captivated Vincent Van Gogh and figured in so many of his works. The property offers tranquility among its gardens, lawns, and fields, and is surrounded on all sides by countryside with no view of any neighboring houses. At the rear of the property there is direct access to the Regional Park of the Alpilles, with trails that meander through the bucolic, lavender and pine-scented hills where your excursions on foot or horseback can take you to two-thousand-year-old ruins of a Roman aqueduct/mill (Barbegal), remnants of the ancient Via Aurelia (that connected Rome to Arles), medieval quarries, castle ruins, along the historic Baux Valley Canal, and the famous windmill of Alphonse Daudet. At the front of the property there is access across the street to a myriad of hiking/horseback riding trails that lead to Les Baux and the trans-Alpilles GR6 hiking trail.

The spacious interior of the villa is in excellent condition and is very light, bright and naturally cool in summer with its thick stone walls, tile floors, and exposed wooden beams and has been decorated in a colorful, tasteful Provencal style. Mas des Sagnos comes completely equipped with modern bathrooms, a well-fitted out kitchen, a sauna, and a convenient laundry room. The house has numerous public spaces, including a nice-sized family/living room with limestone fireplace, a very large formal living room with loft library, a morning room perfect for breakfasts (and which leads out to the pool patio), and a formal dining room. French doors lead to the outside from several of the rooms and on the southern flank of the villa there is a covered terrace overlooking the pool and patio which is perfect for those long summer lunches and late afternoon aperitifs.

The villa is at the epicenter of gourmet paradise... 4 Michelin-starred restaurants and a bistro made famous by Peter Mayle in his books on Provence all within 3 minutes of the front door...2 of them within walking distance. There is no area with a greater concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in rural Europe.
