As early of the beginning of the 16th century cardinals, ambassadors, papal officials, wealthy bankers and distinguished courtesans took up residence here. Around them intellectual life flourished: booksellers, engravers and miniaturists settled around the Piazza Navona and Piazza Pasquino and to this day there are still numerous craftsmen to be found in the area. The recommended walk passes many 15th and 16th century palaces and also offers many pleasant surprises to the curious visitor prepared to turn into the courtyards off the main square -- austere pediments, beautiful balconies and colonnades, cornices with antique motifs, coats of arms, walls decorated with grisaille, frizies and medallions.

Some of the most important tourist places in the zone are the Area Sacra del Largo Argentina, the Pantheon and Piazza di Spagna.
